Dear Deirdra,
If I may, let me express how absolutely grateful I am for your perspective on my state.
I am a multi generational Mississippian and so proud of her. I never fail to exclaim to any and all who criticize her, that if and when they do speak, sadly they speak in ignorance. To spread that ignorance is or should be a crime and stated so.

My great grandfathers proudly fought in the Civil War defending her soil. They were not land barons, they were not politicians, they were not haters of the constitution, nor do I believe they were haters of black people.
They fought for the soil they called home to have the right unheeded by the greed for our land and resources the government wanted. So many people believe it was about slavery but slavery was the fourteenth agenda for separation of states. Yes, I'm glad because of this war a freedom was released but to the chagrin of the unbeknownst slavery continued in more prolific forms of which the new freedom hid, and yes it was most perpetuated by the government in the northern states.
My ancestry in Miss. is deep the horrors of the civil rights movement is so heartbreaking I can hardly stand to learn for I was a child at this time.
As a follower of Christ, it is not my Lord who causes the misunderstandings, it is those who choose their interpretation of what they believe is right. So was the case of Miss., the wicked men whose ignorance spoke for her in their cruelty have justly been rewarded for their part through their deaths and judgment of my LOrd.
I am glad you found your spirit here and thankful you share in her love - She is the same as she has been since time created. Hopefully her children have learned or are learning.

We have people who want to drag us back to past in civil rights time and it is unfortunate because it breeds new generations of ignorance. There are so many things about Miss. that get overlooked - I hope you continue to speak as beautifully as the passage I just read and if you do not mind would love to share it with my fellow Mississippians.

I am a writer and poet and member of several groups. We are constant in our craft to lay tribute at our state's feet. Thank you dearly for your written words. I loved them.
